Covid-19 has affected life and activities all around the Globe dreadfully. In previous crisis, the sports industry has always been considered safe. It’s never been affected other than in times of wars. But during covid-19 athletes, sports, clubs, broadcasters and franchises all are facing. People, after facing a crisis, have started reacting to this novel coronavirus carefully. Now things are coming back to normal gradually. Sports events that were cancelled or postponed last year, will be conducted this year under the observation of strict SOPs.

In this article, we’ll be highlighting important upcoming sports events briefly.

  • 1.Solheim Cup.

The Solheim Cup is a biennial golf tournament for professional women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the United States. The current champions are European and it was played last time in 2019 and was cancelled in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Location: Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio in 2021.

2.Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Formula 1 Racing is the most prestigious and popular Auto Racing sports in the entire world. This year, Racing Season mainly consists of a Pre-Season Testing Round and 23 Rounds of Grands Prix. FIA has announced the schedule of race throughout the year. Pre-Season Testing Round is going to be held on 12-14 March in Bahrain. 23 Rounds of Grands Prix will commence all around the Globe from 26 March to 12 December 2021.

Teams: 10 teams with two drivers each.

3. Golf Ryder cup

The Ryder Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is contested every two years with the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe. The Ryder Cup is named after Samuel Ryder who donated the trophy.

Location: Haven Wisconsin, US.

Time: late September / early October.

4. Four tennis Grand Slams

It’s one of the world’s four most important annual tennis events. The Grand Slam itinerary consists of the Australian Open in mid-January, the French Open from late May to early June, Wimbledon in late June to early July and the US Open in August–September. Each tournament is played over a two-week period. The Australian and the United States tournaments are played on hard courts, the French on clay and Wimbledon on natural grass.

5. UEFA Football championship.

Football is the most popular game which is played in over 200 nations by over 250 million players. Last year matches were cancelled or postponed due to Covid-19. This year it’s being played with the implementation of strict SOPs.

Season 2020-2021 Football UEFA European Championship will be conducted from August 28, 2020, to May 29, 2021. League mainly consists of 3 rounds which are the Qualifying round, Group stages and Knockout.

Location: Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Teams: 32 teams play this league every year.

6. Tokyo Olympic and Paralympics.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will start on 23 July 2021 and run to August 8, 2021, after being postponed in summer 2020 for a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Circumstances allowing, the world’s best athletes will gather in Japan’s capital in July, where baseball/softball makes its Olympic return and karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will appear on the Olympic programme for the first time.

Time for Paralympics: From 24 August to 5 September 2021.

7. Hundred ball cricket tournament

100-ball cricket tournament involves eight men’s and women’s teams located in major cities across England and Wales. It will take place for the first time in summer 2021, having been delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There will be eight city-based teams over a month between 21 July and 21 August 2021, ensuring that the competition takes place during the school summer holidays. Aside from the opening two fixtures featuring the Oval Invincible vs the Manchester Originals, all men’s and women’s matches will be held on the same day on the same grounds.

8. Rugby

Rugby is a challenging physical game established in 1895. Rugby league is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field. Last year its tournaments were postponed in the spring season. But this year it will be played enthusiastically.

It’s the 16th World cup.

Location: England.

Time: October 23 to November 27, 2021. Teams: 16 teams
