The Grand National

Posted by 1stPlace4Trophies on 7th Apr 2015

The Grand National is one of the UKs iconic sporting events of the year and is taking place on Saturday 11th April. The main event is part of 3 day extravaganza that’s happening at the Aintree Racecourse.

The opening day shall consist of a 7 race day whilst on Friday will have its traditional ladies day. All the ladies make that little extra special effort with fancy dresses and head ware to match. I am sure there will be some excellent fashion on display and I’m sure (as the papers shall pick out) there will be cases where the fashion police need to be called.

Grand National Day has already been sold out. The 5th race on the day shall be its 168th race to date and its set to light up the imagination of all hitting the city of Liverpool.

The most successful horse is the one and only Red Rum with a fantastic 3 wins whilst the leading jockey is George Steven who has won the race on no fewer than 5 occasion between 1856 and 1870. The oldest jockey was a savvy 48 year old jockey, Dick Saunders.

So who will win this years Grand National? Well it’s fair to say, you don’t want to be the favourite as only 11 favourites have won in the past 100 years. Likewise if you like an outside bet then 5 horse with the odds of 100-1 have been triumphant in the same time period. Over the past 10 years, there have been 7 winners aged 9 or 10 years of age. So how will you pick your winner? The hearsay of other ‘pundits in the know’, the lucky dip effect, shutting your eyes method, works sweepstake? Whichever you choose, it’s still going to grip the nation whilst having everyone watching and cheering in person or at the TV screens.
