European Fencing Championships - The disciplines explained.

On the 5th June 2015, the top European Fencers headed to Motreux, Switzerland to compete in the European Championships. The 7 day events hosts male and female fencers in different disciplines as well as team events. This year sees 401 participants from 39 countries totalling in 1531 matches. Who shall win the gold medal at the event?

The disciplines.

Foil

Is a light point weapon where competitors score with the point on the body excluding legs, arms and head.

Epee

A heavier sword where points are scored with the point on the body including the legs, arms and head.

Sabre

A cavalry sword where points are scored by using the point and edge of the sword. Target areas in this discipline above the waist, including arms and head.

So who will finish in the top three? At the European Championships winners are awarded medals, gold, silver or bronze and not trophies or cups.
